WordPress 7 is coming: what does it mean for you ?

If you’re a P3F customer and we handle your hosting, you’ve probably never had to worry about updating your website. That’s normal—we take care of it for you—continuously, in the background.

But now, a major new version of WordPress is on the way: version 7.

First of all, where does your website stand today?

Good news: we’ve just completed a full round of updates across all our projects.

Security, performance, compatibility—everything has been thoroughly reviewed.
Your website is up to date, stable, and ready for the future.

WordPress 7: Why are we talking about it?

Some are minor (fixes, security updates, minor tweaks).
Others are major updates that bring about more significant changes to how WordPress works.

Version 7 falls into this second category.

This is a major release, with more significant changes to the platform. This type of update requires a more cautious approach than usual.

It introduces several interesting new features:

  • Real-time collaboration (similar to Google Docs)
  • Notes and comments directly within blocks
  • A live preview system (no need to reload the page)
  • A refreshed admin interface
  • Potential integrations with AI tools (content generation, SEO, etc.)
  • Improved media management (faster, directly in the browser)
  • Updated technical standards (newer PHP versions required)

For our part, we always prioritize stability. We let the new version sit in the ecosystem for a few weeks, giving the community time to identify any issues and release the necessary fixes. Then, we roll it out, with much more perspective.

It’s not the quickest approach, but it’s the one that helps avoid unpleasant surprises.

What this means for your website

The real challenge with this type of update isn’t WordPress itself, but everything that goes along with it.

Your website likely uses several extensions or plugins to handle certain features: forms, SEO, online store, etc. These tools are developed by external teams, which do not all evolve at the same pace.

When WordPress undergoes a major update, some plugins may take a little time to adapt. This can lead to temporary incompatibilities: a feature that no longer works as expected, a change in how content is displayed, or unexpected behavior.

This isn’t unusual, and it isn’t a problem in and of itself. But it needs to be properly tested and managed, which is something we do systematically before deployment.

Could there be any bugs?

Yes. And that’s normal.

Even with the utmost care, a major update can result in:

  • Conflicts with certain extensions
  • Unexpected behavior
  • Visual elements that need adjustment

The good news is that you don’t have to deal with that.

If an issue is detected on your site:

  • We clearly explain the situation to you
  • We explain the impact
  • We propose (and implement) a solution

What you need to do

Honestly? Not much.

We will :

  • Keep an eye on the progress of WordPress 7
  • Schedule updates at the right time
  • Test before deploying
  • Respond quickly in case of issues

As for you, you can continue to use your website as usual.

In summary

WordPress 7 introduces some exciting new features, particularly in terms of collaboration and performance.

But like any major update, it requires a thoughtful approach—and that’s exactly what we do at P3F. We don’t rush to adopt new features. We implement them only when they’re stable, relevant… and secure for your specific situation.
